The Wolf Firm Virtual Aquarium

Installation Instructions

1.  To properly install The Wolf Firm Virtual Aquarium, you should first check to see if you have the System Requirements:

If you meet these requirements, the software should work on your system.  

For more information on the System Requirements, check out our Frequently Asked Questions.

If you don't have the system requirements, why not use the Aquarium snapshot on our Holiday card as Wallpaper for your Windows desktop.  It's a snapshot, the fish don't swim, but it's beautiful nonetheless.  For instructions on how to download and install the Aquarium snapshot as your Windows Wallpaper, click here.

2.  Next, make sure your desktop color is set to "16 bit" by going to "Settings," "Control Panel," "Display" and changing the setting to "High Color (16 bit)" as shown below.

3.  Also, be sure your anti-virus software is deactivated for the duration of the download and install.

4.  Go to http://www.wolffirm.com/aquarium and download the The Wolf Firm Virtual Aquarium from the site.  PLEASE NOTE, prior to downloading and installing this software onto a company computer, you should check your company policy regarding the addition of third party software. MOST FINANCIAL INSTITUTIONS DO NOT ALLOW THE DOWNLOAD OF SOFTWARE TO COMPANY COMPUTERS.  There are good reasons for this and we ask that you strictly obey these rules.  We anticipate that most people will only be able to use the software on their home computers.

5. After downloading the program from http://www.wolffirm.com/aquarium, find the folder you downloaded to and double-click on the Aquarium file. This will run the Aquarium Setup Wizard, which will install The Wolf Firm Virtual Aquarium on your computer.  Simply read and follow the instructions for installation.

6. Once the installation process is complete, there should be a new icon on your desktop of an orange and white fish. Double-click on the fish to run the The Wolf Firm Virtual Aquarium.

7. The Wolf Firm Virtual Aquarium will first run with a single Yellow fish and a black box.

8. Press the space bar to bring up the registration window.

9.  To avoid any possible input errors (Some characters can be easily mixed up i.e. the letter "O" and zero, capital "I" and the number one, etc.), copy and paste your keycode "AWOLF-26W6W-EO632-637V7" (without the quotation marks) into the registration space.

10. Then click on the "OK" buttom or press enter.  Good job!  You now have The Wolf Firm Virtual Aquarium properly installed and running!  Relax!  Enjoy the view!

11.  Now for changing the program settings.  With the program running (double click on the [Image] icon if the program is not still running), press the space bar to bring up the Settings menu.  Your default settings will look something like this:

 12.  We recommend that you change your settings to the following:

Livestock
Because of the complexity of the program, only seven fish (plus the starfish) can be in the The Wolf Firm Virtual Aquarium at any one time.  The default settings provide that the same seven fish will be in your virtual aquarium each and every time you start it. Since the software allows for 21 varieties of fish, setting each of the seven fish settings to "Random" will allow different fish to appear randomly each time The Wolf Firm Virtual Aquarium is started.  Choosing "Don't duplicate random choices" makes sure that each of the seven randomly chosen fish will always unique, i.e., no two of the same fish will be in the aquarium at any one time.
Misc
"Exit on Mouse Move" allows you to quickly get out of  The Wolf Firm Virtual Aquarium by a touch of the mouse.  This is highly effective when your boss is unexpectedly coming to your desk.  "Limit from rate to 60" insures that the program uses less resources and "Starfish allowed on glass" allows the starfish (which moves vvvverrrryyyy slllllowwwwly) to also move onto the aquarium glass- very cool!
Resolution
Use your normal "Desktop Resolution" for safety.  However, if you're using the program on your souped up home computer with all the bells and whistles, try setting it at the highest resolution.  The view is breathtaking! 
Lights
The default setting of "Automatic Lights" constantly changes the Foreground and Background lighting of the aquarium.  It's interesting for about ten minutes and then it become nerve racking.  Turn off this selection (by unchecking the check mark) and move the Background lighting to a little move than half way on the bar.  This should provide you with a beautiful blue background and light up The Wolf Firm Crystal in the aquarium (which is really why we want you to set the lighting this way..).
Bubbles
Bubbles are good as long as you don't have to hear them.  Leave the Bubbles setting on by leaving the check mark in the "Column" setting but change the check mark in the sound choices so that the check mark is next to the word "Off."

13. Don't forget to reactivate your anti-virus software when you are finished.
